Grade 1b News - Nov 25 - Nov29

Reading: We learned the short i sound like in the words: rip, tip, flip, sip  and the consonants, r, h, b, g and s when it sounds like z, like in the word his.

Writing: We worked all week on fixing up and revising our stories so that we can publish them.

Math: We finished learning about subtraction strategies and moved into learning about related addition and subtraction facts. This will lead us into learning about fact families. Related addition and subtraction are like 3+2=5 and 2+3=5  and 9-6=3 and 9-3=6

Art: We learned about the artist Kandisky and the way he draws circles. Then we made Kandinsky circle paintings.

Science: We moved on from living and non-living things and learned about the needs of an animal. Animals have four basic needs. Can your student name them?

Social Studies: There was no Social this week because Tuesday was a half day.

We also practiced fire drill procedures this week. Our class knows that as soon as we hear the bell, we stop and drop everything and get in line right away and stay quiet. We also know how important it is to walk during a fire drill instead of run.

Thursday, we had our value celebration and someone from our class was chosen out of the box for the first time! Yassin's responsibility card was drawn and he gets to have a popcorn snack with Ms. Sanaa and the other winners. Congratulations Yassin!
