Winter Break Homework

The winter break homework packet is coming home with your student today.

There is 6 pages of math to complete. Please try to spread it out over the whole break. Try not to complete it all in one day.

The rest of the work is "Winter Break with My Snowman". It is a reading and writing activity. Each student received a paper snowman. They get to color and cut out their snowman and give him or her a name. Then your student should bring their snowman with them wherever you go. There are six pages for a journal and your student should write a story about what they did that day with their snowman.
Feel free to get creative with the activity. It is supposed to be fun for them! Take pictures of your student with their snowman doing the activities they write about, if you want. You can make it as easy or as involved as you want.

After the break, we will spend a writing block sharing what everyone did with their snowman.

Thanks for you help in making this a fun activity! Your students are excited about it!

Please enjoy your break! Happy New Year!

Winter Break

A few things in preparation for Winter Break:

-Please be sure that you have sent any library books that you have at home back to school by tomorrow.

-If you have a reading file at home, please send that back to school tomorrow.

- Today you will be receiving a notice about the time scheduled for you for the parent meetings for after the break. The time should be the same or very close to the time that you had for the last parent meeting. If the time works for you, please send it back to school tomorrow signed. If it does not work, please send me two other times that may work for you.

-There is no homework tonight besides practicing sight words or reading a book at home. Tomorrow you will receive a Winter Break Homework Packet to be completed during the break.

Also, GPS has created a facebook page for the school. There are a lot of pictures on there from Sports Day and from the Christmas concert. Please go take a look and "like" our page. https://www.facebook.com/GlobalParadigmSchool

Awesome Job!!!! Great work!

I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate all of the hard work you are putting in at home with your students!!

I gave a sight word assessment today to all of the students to see how their progress is coming along. Everyone did incredible! The progress that your students are making is truly a reflection of the work you are doing at home with the sight word practice!

Thanks for all of your hard work!

Notices

The Christmas Concert has been rescheduled for Thursday December 13. A notice was sent home with more details. Please check the home folder for it.

This week's homework is just the reading log and sight word practice. I will be doing assessments and other random lessons as the trimester comes to a close. I may assign other homework as the week progresses if I find that we aren't able to finish something in class or if I notice the students need more practice with something. But as for now, the only homework is reading and sight word practice every night.

Thank you!

Important Dates

I have updated the calendar on the left side of the blog with important events in the coming weeks.

Please note the dates.
Thank you!

Grade 1b News - Nov 25 - Nov29

Reading: We learned the short i sound like in the words: rip, tip, flip, sip  and the consonants, r, h, b, g and s when it sounds like z, like in the word his.

Writing: We worked all week on fixing up and revising our stories so that we can publish them.

Math: We finished learning about subtraction strategies and moved into learning about related addition and subtraction facts. This will lead us into learning about fact families. Related addition and subtraction are like 3+2=5 and 2+3=5  and 9-6=3 and 9-3=6

Art: We learned about the artist Kandisky and the way he draws circles. Then we made Kandinsky circle paintings.

Science: We moved on from living and non-living things and learned about the needs of an animal. Animals have four basic needs. Can your student name them?

Social Studies: There was no Social this week because Tuesday was a half day.

We also practiced fire drill procedures this week. Our class knows that as soon as we hear the bell, we stop and drop everything and get in line right away and stay quiet. We also know how important it is to walk during a fire drill instead of run.

Thursday, we had our value celebration and someone from our class was chosen out of the box for the first time! Yassin's responsibility card was drawn and he gets to have a popcorn snack with Ms. Sanaa and the other winners. Congratulations Yassin!
